S for Sick

2010 isn’t starting out so great for Music Man and me; unfortunately, we are still sick. New Year’s Eve went almost exactly the way I predicted it would. We had delicious Italian takeout from Buca di Beppo for dinner, and spent the rest of the evening surfing the ‘net and watching bad TV. Our celebratory “shot” to toast the New Year was nighttime cold medicine, which my ever-chivalrous husband measured out and let me have first before using the little measuring cup to take his own. It wasn't the most pleasant tasting New Year's toast I've ever had, but damn was it effective. This stuff hits hard and quickly, but unlike New Year's past, I didn't throw up before passing out. I also didn't wake up with a hangover or spend the day wishing the technicolor vomit (thanks, jello shots!) would just kill me.

We were in bed and asleep by 11 p.m., and it’s really amazing that we managed to stay awake that long.

Maybe it was the cough medicine induced haze, but I started reflecting about New Years past and New Years to come, and I realized that this was really one of the best New Years I’ve ever had. There really was nothing else I’d rather do (well, except feel better of course) than to spend the evening with my husband and our two crazy dogs. Music Man is my best friend and biggest cheerleader. Throughout our three years together, he’s been beside me through my lowest lows and highest highs, and I couldn’t imagine anyone else I would want by my side to ring in yet another year. I am a lucky lady.

As I feared it would, I think this cold has moved into my sinuses. I have chronic sinus problems, so I know that anytime I get the slightest bit sick, there’s the risk that a sinus infection will follow. That certainly seems to be the case now. I have all the normal symptoms: bad headache, my face hurts, I feel way stuffy, and I’m a little dizzy and feverish. I’m really annoyed about it, because I’ve done everything right…I’ve taken care of myself with this cold...I’ve spent the weekend lying low, being lazy, and just trying to get healthy. I reeeeeeeeeeally hope these sinus symptoms are just temporary; the last lingering nastiness of an awful, awful cold. I don’t want to deal with an infection right now, and I’m just really really sick of being sick. As of today, it’s been a week that I’ve had this cold, and I’m just ready for it to be gone.

I'll spend this evening pulling from my arsenal of surefire sinus remedies including pepper nasal spray, hot tea, and other over the counter remedies. In the hopes that I'll be able to fight off this infection before it really gets a chance to settle in. Hopefully, I'll be healthy again in no time.

On a good note, things can only go up from here, right? That means 2010 can only get better!

How is your year starting out, dear reader?
